The power of abstract wallpaper gathered momentum as the century progressed. Younger artists emerging during the inter-war years embraced it in their quest to make sense of their uncertain, war-threatened world. Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, Franz Kline, Mark Rothko among others found a freedom in abstract wallpaper that enabled them to make bold statements. They were highly individualistic in their approach to their art but all were united by a need to give voice to the strong emotions they were feeling. Theirs was the disturbing, unstable world of pre and post-war America.

The three major forms of blue abstract are cubism, neoplasticism, and abstract expressionism. Several artists are credited with the foundations of blue abstract. Among those artists, the most famous cubists were Pablo Picasso and Georges. Piet Mondrian's works are one of the best examples of neoplasticism. Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock are excellent examples of abstract expressionism.

Abstract is popular for many reasons a few being, it is perceived to be popular, meaning that because people believe it is popular, abstract art has actually risen in popularity. The second reason is that it is very open to interpretation which makes it excellent art for placing in a public office or other space where many people will see it because it is hard to be offended by something abstract. And lastly it is very easy to decorate with because it can often be used in many different spaces and situations without clashing with the owner of the space or their other pre-existing decorations and furniture. This is simply not the case with almost all other styles of art because unlike works done in more traditional styles, abstract paintings are not limited by any particular form or function and thus have a wider range of interpretation and influence on the area where they are placed.

Peonies in our back yard have bloomed and I always love painting these each spring. It is usually around Mother's Day that they are in full bloom, but this year they have blossomed early here in Missouri. This a single flower on a small canvas painted with a palette knife capturing more of a gestural rendering than a realistic portrayal. Painting could be hung as it is or further enhanced by framing it. Next up I will post the vase and bouquet of these Peonies. Hope you are enjoying the spring collection of floral paintings....thanks for reading! Enjoy!

60" x 20" Oil on Linen Gallery Wrap
This size canvas is really cool. It is very vertical, and if you have the right wall space, this canvas might work for you. The paints were applied with a palette knife, so there is alot of texture on the linen. I have purposely left the natural linen peaking through, giving the eye a rest. Thanks for viewing this blog....kay@kwyne.com.

Day 33 of CHALLENGE 60 features a miniature landscape, 4"x12", Oil on Stretched Canvas with painted edges, so no frame needed, $60. Lately I've been more fascinated with trees than ever. In the Southwest we have some beautiful designs and magnificent variety in our trees. These would be found in Northern Arizona. I have plans to paint some Sonoran Desert trees very soon.

I haven't been taking my own advice. Blog often and visit other's blogs and leave comments.
I bought a house last year which was not in the best of state. It had good bones, i.e. no issues with foundation and the roof is fairly new. I was going to re-sell it right away so I left it vacant for the past year. At the beginning of this year, I realized keeping it vacant and not updating it was not helping it sell so I decided to fix it up and now I've decided to live in it.
Fixing a house to re-sell and fixing a house to live in is a little different. There are things I've been doing to the house to make it more comfortable. This has been eating up a chunk of my time and sadly I've put my blogging on hold.
It is a little hard to get back into the groove of blogging...it will be a challenge.
